Dot NAME Domains

Launched in 2001, the Dot NAME generic domain extension is the sole TLD planned for personal sites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other designations people are famous by. Initially, just third-level registrations were allowed, so if you wanted to register john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also allowed. Already registered 3rd-level domain names remained working.
