An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a computer system and functions as the intermediary between applications and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it transfers requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Identical to a personal computer, hosting servers also feature an Operating System which serves as a host for the software installed on them, which includes script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you'll be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS

If you choose one of our virtual private server packages, you will have as many as three different Operating Systems to pick from - CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu. They are all Linux distributions and we offer them rather than offering just a single OS, as the applications that you might want to run on the server may have specific requirements about the software environment. Each of these three has some pros in terms of the available packages that you can later on install, but what's common between them is the fact that they're very stable and dependable and have large communities that support them. The hosting Control Panel options for the VPS accounts depend on your OS choice, in order to give you more flexibility. When you order the virtual server with one OS and you need another one later, our technical support team can easily reinstall the VPS with the new one in a couple of minutes. We also offer the option to keep the Operating System on your server up-to-date weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting

If you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a wider choice for the system environment on the machine as different applications may have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and risk-free hosting service. Depending on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you have selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software that you would like to run. We can also upgrade the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
